Welcome!
I first learned about Sikhism as a 19-year old college student. The brief chapter in my World Religions textbook was succinct and easily overlooked but it resonated with me. In the eight years since, I have led a primarily secular lifestyle with the typical Judeo-Christian influences you might expect from living in the rural Midwest, yet there were regular reminders of this religion that exists out there and my interest would be sparked again.
I am the type of personality who goes through phases. I get very passionate about a music genre, a fiction author, some ethnic food, or any number of other minor obsessions. For months and months I center my spare time around pursuing that specific interest until I find excitement in something new. Several times I have felt compelled to approach Sikhism with the same passionate interest, but I felt that a belief in a divine creator was too important and too special to rush into.
There is not one specific event that changed my direction recently, but I feel a calm resolve instead of a spark of interest. I want to follow the teachings of the Sikh Gurus because I have learned about them and I believe they will lead me to live a good life.
Where I live in the rural Midwest, the nearest Gurdwara is over an hour away. There is no Sikh community anywhere near me and so I will be slowly teaching myself. You are welcome to follow me in this journey.
